El Maco (San Agustin)

Location: Heading toward the Parque Arqueologico you take a right and head up a hill. El Maco is on your right. Watch for sign on right about 1km out of town.

Price: $ 8.00 to 20.00 USD (I guess they have camping that is cheaper.) I paid $10.00 USD for a complete dorm to myself (off season), since I was worried about my valuables.

El Maco in San Agustin, Colombia is a pretty cool place to stay. I found the staff and dogs friendly.

The beds were comfortable and plenty of blankets to keep you warm on the cool nights. They also have mosquito nets that you should use.

The toilets and showers were clean. Now supposedly they have hot water showers, but I took a few bone chilling hyperthermia showers that had me yelling out in utter joy and shock. You feel like you are born again after getting out of the shower. My last shower I did witness hot water coming out of the pipe. I was near the end of my Alaskan dip and I jumped back under the pipe with a smile.

The owner was out of town and the staff takes this opportunity to sit on their ass.

The breakfast was alright after we got the waitress to wipe the previous days slime off the table. The coffee was hot and the eggs were yummy. Now my friend was dissecting the 4-day-old homemade bread and discussing on whether the mold was dangerous. I assured her is was good for her. She was still chattering from the hot showers and slathered on some tasty jam to hide the green blotches.
