Masaya, Nicaragua

Masaya, Nicaragua is a fun town to hang around in the Parque Central. They have lots of food stalls and a really great natural juice stand.

I never did make it out to, “Parque Nacional Volcan Masaya” which I think was mistake. A lady that works at the park was showing me some pictures of bats, stalactites and cool views of the volcano. So I think it might be worth the effort to plan a trip the Masaya Volcano National Park.

The prison fort in Coyotepe is an interesting little trip and should not take more than a couple hours to do. Just take a cab from Masaya for a couple dollars and have a look around. Be sure to take a flashlight. I walked up the long twisting road to the top, but there have been reports of robberies, so use your best judgment. If the guard is asleep in the hammock don’t make the mistake I did and wake him up. He will just ask you to pay a one-dollar admission fee.

This shot was taken from Coyotepe.

The water never agreed with me in Masaya, so use caution if you are thinking about drinking it.
I almost forgot! Definitely make a trip to Catarina and enjoy the view of Laguna de Apoyo. Staying in Catarina is also a good option.
