Traveling from El Salvador through Honduras and into Nicaragua.

This video gives you a quick peek at my travels in one day from El Salvador through Honduras and finally on a chicken bus in Nicaragua heading to my final destination of Leon.

Monday I left Perquin, El Salvador and traveled about 3 hours (1 pickup and 2 buses) to the Honduras border. Then at the Honduras border I exchanged 10 USD for the Honduran Lempira, since it was going to be cheaper to pay for the buses that way. Then it took me around 3 hours (2 buses) to get to the Nicaragua border. Once at the Nicaragua border I exchanged 100 USD for 2000 Cordoba. Then I caught a direct bus to Leon, Nicaragua that took about 3 hours.

So I got started at 7:00am and finally found a suitable hotel in Leon at around 6:00pm. It was difficult to find a nice hotel that I liked in Leon. I wandered around town soaking wet with my heavy pack and came upon a nice hostel with private rooms. The owner wanted 10 dollars per night, but I got her down to 8 dollars per night for 3 nights.

Once in my hotel I dumped my gear and took a nice shower and got dressed for dinner. I found a nice Chinese restaurant and had a relaxing meal and came home and fell asleep.

The #1 tip for getting ready to travel?

Buy your plane ticket to your destination! I’ve always found that the only way to truly get ready for leaving home is to purchase your plane ticket. That forces you to mentally get all the little stuff done around home.
