Police, chalk, yellow tape and blood marked the spot of someone’s last night in San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala. From what I was able to find out a drunken tourist fell off the roof of the Hotel San Francisco on the night of January 27, 2010.
My condolences go out to the family that lost a loved one.
Now drunk or not you need to be careful on these buildings. Most do not have guardrails and often the guardrails could be little more than ½ inch PVC plastic pipe.
I just spoke with someone that knows a person that was there when this German man fell of the roof. Apparently the German man could have been sleeping on the roof. Because there was a blanket laid out on the top of the building. Supposed the space he was sleeping was very narrow. So possibly he just rolled over in his sleep.
Two people heard him fall and rushed to his aide. He was coherent and rambling away in German. They stated they did not smell alcohol on him. Seems he suffered severe hip and head injuries. The paramedics arrived and could not seem to lift him (he was a heavy man) into the ambulance and did not know how to treat his injuries. Finally a group of people got him on the backboard and loaded him into the ambulance. He either died going to the hospital or at the hospital.
