If you happen to be staying in Perquin, El Salvador then a nice little 2-hour hike to San Fernando is a good day trip to enjoy the beauty of the waterfall there. Plus you will be awarded with a refreshing swim in the deep cool pool below the waterfall. Evidently when you arrive at the falls you are officially in Honduras (that was told to me by a lady from El Salvador.)
My friend and I were offered numerous rides hiking to the falls which we refused. But on our return back to Perquin we came back (in a pickup) with a family that was also visiting the San Fernando falls.
