Belize is expensive these days and not really a budget backpackers destination anymore. I just stayed in Belize City on my way to Mexico.
The departure tax is a wallet buster of "18 US dollars" no matter if your are only there a couple days.
I found the people very warm and friendly and not happy with their government.
